Connecting for a better Ireland
Open eir is proud to serve the people of Ireland. Our purpose is, and always will be, to connect for a better Ireland. We are exclusively focused on Ireland and everything we do is for the benefit of the people of Ireland. We are investing over a half a billion to transform and expand our fixed fibre network, delivering world class infrastructure informed by the needs of our customers, now and into the future.
Ownership
In 2017, open eir was purchased by NJJ, French long-term telco owners, with a track record of investment and years of experience delivering customer-centric innovation across Europe. Their perpetual ownership means clarity of strategy, long-term vision and continued investment
Open eir’s Network
Today more than 1 million premises nationwide can access our superfast broadband via any one of our 40+ Retail Service Providers. What exactly does this mean? It means that open eir builds and maintains the network and our 40+ partners sell the network to households, businesses, schools and colleges. Once we complete our deployment program our fibre network will cover 1.9 million homes and businesses across the country, which is more than 84% of the total premises in Ireland.
When the pandemic hit, we didn’t lose a single day in the field, we continued to extend fibre broadband to as many homes and businesses as possible, making sure our customers stayed connected when they needed us most.
We are building the network for all of Ireland and actively working to support the National Broadband Plan (NBP) via our infrastructure nationwide. Our network, combined with the NBP, will mean Ireland has a near ubiquitous fibre broadband network, making it one of the most connected countries in the world.
Access to high speed internet is vital for the rejuvenation of all of Ireland. Our fibre network will enable people to live and work wherever they wish in the country, easing pressure on our urban centres, reducing demand on schools, crèches and house prices, while improving traffic congestion and reducing the associated carbon emissions.
We are more than 1500 people, working and living across Ireland, who take pride in what we do for our customers. We keep homes, schools, hospitals, businesses and our country connected every day. For generations we have offered good jobs and career opportunities in nearly every town in Ireland. We are incredibly proud to be a company that many of our employees choose to stay with for their entire working lives. We believe in promoting from within and many members of our management teams have worked their way up through the business from entry-level positions.
