Important Information

How open eir works

open eir operates as a wholesale network provider, partnering with over 29 fibre broadband retail providers as listed below. These retail providers offer fibre broadband to homeowners using the open eir fibre network.

When your high-speed fibre is connected you will see different equipment being installed – network equipment (which allows your property access to the fibre network and is fixed to your wall) and the modem (which provides the WiFi service around the house and is generally a free standing unit).

About your network equipment
The open eir network equipment consists of two units which are fixed to the wall in your home. These units are called the Network Termination Unit and the Optical Network Terminal, pictured above. The two units and the power supply unit are essential parts of the open eir fibre network. These should remain affixed to the wall of your home and should not be removed or returned when ending a contract with your retail provider. You will not be charged for keeping open eir equipment.

If you end a fibre broadband service from a retail provider they may request that you send their modem back to them. Return the modem but do not return the open eir network equipment.

Why you should leave the equipment installed
Leaving the network equipment in place allows you to easily order fibre broadband from any of the retail providers below. This means that if you switch providers or re-activate the service in the future, then there is no need for a technician to visit your property, making the process quick and hassle-free.
