open eir call young artists to help celebrate connectivity and brighten up Dublin

14 April 2021

Today open eir, Ireland’s largest wholesale network operator, has announced a competition inviting young artists to submit their artwork and be in with a chance to have their designs displayed on 100 fibre cabinets across Dublin.

Throughout the pandemic open eir’s team of 1,000 engineers have continued to roll out thousands of kilometres of fibre broadband connecting thousands of homes and businesses across Ireland. In 2020 the team connected 220,000 homes and businesses, ensuring high-speed broadband and connectivity was accessible to as many customers as possible. Over the past year we’ve all experienced how vital connectivity and broadband is to stay connected, to work, learn and play. open eir is proud to have built, and continue to build, a network that has made this possible for so many people across Ireland.

open eir is inviting aspiring young artists to create a piece of art that demonstrates what staying connected means to them. open eir chose this theme to highlight the importance of fibre connectivity in keeping communities and people connected.

Eavann Murphy, Managing Director, open eir: “In open eir our purpose is clear, we are connecting for a better Ireland and we are immensely proud of what we make possible through our fibre network. Our technicians did not miss one day building and maintaining our network despite all the challenges of public health restrictions, so we want to use this opportunity to showcase their work. High speed fibre broadband has become essential to our lives since the pandemic forced us to change how we live, work and connect to our loved ones. It is the network that has enabled us to talk to our friends and family, take our video meetings and our doctor’s appointments, watch movies, order birthday presents and celebrate the major milestones of our lives over this last year. The network is unseen infrastructure, yet it is everywhere.”

Five submissions will be shortlisted, each winning a prize. That shortlist will be shared on social media and members of the public will vote to pick the overall winner. The submission with the most votes and will have their winning artwork displayed on 100 fibre cabinets across the county for years to come.

Aspiring artists are called to enter today to be in with a chance of having your art showcased across Dublin and win an art supply voucher.  Winning artwork will be printed alongside open eir branding and installed on fibre cabinets across Dublin. Designs must be submitted by 28th May 2021. For information on how to enter click here:
